A Bit of Green

Saint Patrick's Day was two days ago, and I'm still wearing green nail polish. Fortunately, it's a very subtle green.

Last year on St. Patrick's Day, I wore a t-shirt that proudly -- and accurately -- advertised itself as "This Is My (You're Not Getting) Lucky Shirt." Two things happened that night. The first didn't seem all that significant, given the circumstances at the time, but at this moment it feels like it might have been the luckiest thing that ever happened to me. The second seemed much more promising when it happened, but ultimately proved to be a case of wrong time, wrong person, wrong idea. I get that a lot.

If someone had pulled me aside on St. Patty's Day a year ago and said "OK, this is what's going to happen before you drag that shirt out again next year," I would have laughed. Hard. And maybe, just maybe, I might have made different decisions. Saved myself a lot of heartache. Talked myself out of believing quite so strongly in people who might not ever change.

I didn't wear my "(You're Not Getting) Lucky Shirt" on St. Patrick's Day this year. Because I'm feeling pretty lucky these days.
